31 Days to a Better Blog - Day 7

Plan Your Next Week’s Posting Schedule
The task for day 7 is to plan my posts for the next week, this would assume that I actually knew what I would be writing about before creating a new post. Some people think that I am really well organised and have things planned out so I can fit everything in and get my family organised and where they should all be when they should be there. Then there are the people who really know me like family and close friends who know that I am not really very organised at all. I get everything done, usually at the last minute but it is finished in time.

Not a good example to my kids especially when getting them to try and organise their study time better. But over the last 6 months or so I have come to the conclusion that this is what I am like and how I work best. I am going to live my life how I want and not worry about how other people see me. This can be very liberating when we come to this sort of conclusion.
So I may have written a post about planning next weeks posting schedule but it is not something I will be undertaking. I would just change the schedule anyway and as I said in my About Me page it is all a matter of when it suits I will post, if family or work commitments get in the way then so be it.

I’m a spontaneous writer as well. Although I have several ‘ideas’ brewing on the back burner…by the time I make it to the keyboard…there are other topics that need exploring. However, I did buy some nice colorful folders to keep ‘my back burner’ ideas in…that could be considered a ‘plan’…couldn’t it? As I continue to modify and change the direction of my blog I am finding that perhaps I do need some sort of plan so I can continue to work in that direction and not fall into the ‘comfort zone’ of mediocrity. But I use the term ‘plan’ loosely of course

Hi Danielle
I also have ideas brewing, some make it some don’t as I run out of time. If blogging is not a “paid” job then I think this is not such a bad way to go. It means I post about the things I want to rather than maybe what I may think I “should”.
All in all its fun and a great way to meet and talk to other people and certainly opens the mind.
Thanks for visiting
Cheers

I am a somewhat more ahhhh particular about the state of my environment - ranging from shed to spice rack to the way I fold my linen - however, with regards to the my blog I do it in bursts when I feel the need to, so good on you I say - I have resisted the temptation to blog 31 times in 31 days…..toooooo much pressure I say!

I love that you are engaging with the challenge and life in the way that suits you best. It helps me remember to allow myself to do the same. I fear I succumb to the surrounding pressures more than is healthiest for me at times.
Keep inspiring us!

Planning ahead. Someimes a post is a response to another blog. Then with others if you wait to long with the topics they date, so timeliness is an issue. Then maybe planning is taking the spontaneous nature out of blogging. I suppose if you are going it to make money then yes you have to plan, and research the post and ensure its what your audience your targeting wants. But in a lot of cases that goes against what people got into blogging for. People want the freedom to write on their topics not on audience dictates.

Hi Sue, Christine and Gary
I think it is just a fact of getting older, that I want to suit myself rather than other. Not what I was like in my 20’s and 30’s thats for sure.
Gary you have summed the whole thing up better than I, hit the nail on the head.
I plan to try and finish the 31 day challenge but only because I can see how much I have already achieved and gained in just 7 days. Sometimes I need a push, commitment like this to get me focused!
Cheers

I can certainly vouch that Frances gets things done - no matter how she gets there - because she produces top-quality class notes and delivers wonderful workshops.
Frances, is the shed yours or the boys? If it’s the boys, then let them clean it up. Besides, they probably know exactly where everything is.

I tend to plan when I’m writing a series of posts or when I’m trying to answer a particular reader question or need. That’s when I’m seeing my blog as a resource for other people. But if you’re blog’s purpose is to really serve as your own online journal and connector to others, then planning may make less sense.

Hi Michele
I suppose I have not been doing this very long so have not even thought of a series of post. I hope all my post run in a sort of Technology theme - very wide but hopefully relevant.
I have used post as part of students lessons when appropriate. The post about being a Googleholic was used in class last week and they all had to try different search engines.
My blog is definitely related to my work but is dominated by my life.
Now I wonder if that means my work is my life? A bit of a worry that

Hi Frances
I think everyone makes valid points. I especially like Gary’s points.
I have decided to do this task a plan and do the series of posts to see what it is like. If think if you are like Darren and this is your living then you probably should do this. However if you are like us, and work, it makes a lot more work. Saying that I have learnt even more about the topics I am blogging about this week so that is good.
